The Fleet

the Fleet is a common French, located on the Ile de Ré in the department of the Charente-Maritime and the area Poitou-Charentes. One also finds the C-W communication Fleet-in-D .

Geography

  • Village and small port on the Northern coast of the Ile de Ré vis-a-vis the coasts of the Vendée.
  • the largest commune of the Ile de Ré and the most populated.
  • Shore bordered of small cliffs. Small artificial beach (D-ensablée every year) .

Activity:

  • Agriculture, asparaguses, potatoes, vine.
  • Ostreiculture, water sport, fishing.
  • Tourism.

History

Native village of Gustave Dechézeaux (October 8th, 1760 - January 17th, 1794) . Deputy of the national Convention. Wrongfully shown, it is guillotine with Rochefort (Charente-Maritime) then rehabilitated by Convention on April 18th, 1795.
