The Fig tree
the Fig tree is a prehistoric site including/understanding an archaeological layer important and a Grotte decorated with the Paléolithique superior. He is on the commune of Saint-Martin-in Ardèche (Ardèche).
The archaeological layer
The vast porch of entry, excavated as from 1878, delivered occupations of the Moustérien (standard Eastern Quina), Aurignacien (blades aurignacians and Dufour plates), Solutréen (old S. with points with plane face, S. higher than sheets of bay-tree) and higher Magdalénien (Sagaie S with double bevels, with groove).The burial of a five year old older child, cover of Ocher and accompanied by a bored shell of Glycymeris , was discovered in a gallery. It was brought back to Magdalénien.
Decorated cave
The first incisions of the decorated part were announced in 1906 then identified by H. Breuil in 1928. Works are degraded and include/understand Gravure S of animal of which Bison S, Mammouth S, a Boviné, a Cheval, a probable Capriné and layouts unspecified. The unit could not be dated directly but could be solutréen according to the style of the figurations.
