The Face
the Face ( Ansiktet ) is a Swedish film of Ingmar Bergman, left in 1958.
Synopsis
In 1946, in Sweden, the theater company of “Doctor Vogler”, specialized in the turns of conjuring and the sale of various philters, arrives at Stockholm. The members of the small troop are intercepted by the consul, who invites them to pass the evening at his place, in company of the prefect and the Director of health, in order to check their alleged talents.
Vergerus does not believe in the supernatural gifts of Vogler and expresses to him with irony and contempt. On the other hand, Ottilia, the woman of the consul is convinced, like her husband, that the " magus " will be able to explain the death of his/her daughter to him.
Vergerus discovered that Aman, the assistant of Vogler, is actually a woman, Manda, the wife of this last. It in vain tries to allure it and attracts itself the anger of Vogler which removes its mask and reveals a face of old man.
The representation takes place the following day. Antonsson is subjected to the hypnotic capacities of Vogler but revolts against this one, strangles it and hangs themselves. Vergerus makes the autopsy of the corpse of Vogler and notes that it is actually about that of certain Spegel, alcoholic actor.
