the history of this film is based on actual facts. Indeed, whereas William Peter Blatty is not yet that student it falls on an article reporting a case from exorcism on a boy 14 years in 1949 in the Maryland. It is then put to write on the subject. The book is sold to 13 million specimens only in the United States.

the voice of small Regan is that of the actress Mercedes McCambridge, a former alcoholic. For this doubling, it was invested much morally: she went back to drinking and smoking to obtain this very serious voice. In order to return in the character of Regan, she asked to be attached to the chair. She is really tortured mentally and physically.

the poster of the film which announces the color came from William Friedkin which took as a starting point a table. He says it itself: “It is possible that certain pictorial movements had an influence on me, but never in a conscious way. The only painting which ever influenced one of my films directly, it is this Magritte: empire of the lights. I knew when I saw this fabric which I was to recreate, for the scene where the priest arrives close to the house of Mac Neil in the Exorcist, the environment which emerged some. I thus chose a house giving on a street enlightened by the same type of reverberator, and I made light the similar scene of manner. I did not copy this table. I was only inspired some for what remains today like one of the most memorable plans of film. ”
