Essarts-le- Vicomte is a common French, located in the department of the Marne and the area Champagne-Ardenne.
During the French revolution the commune was called Beaucessarts and also Essarts-l' Unité.
Etymology: of Latin essartus, essarter, to clear. The name of the Viscount is not known. Perhaps to bring closer with the seigniory to Escardes which took the tax on the inhabitants of Essarts.
In the beginning the main forests of Traconne and Forest of Gault made one unit. The opening of the Paris-Nancy royal roads, today RN 4, involved the great forest work carried out by the monks Benedictines of the abbey of Nesle Reposte. The village is mentioned since 1171 in texts.
