The Ennepe-Ruhr

Geographical location

The district of the Ennepe-Ruhr ( the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis ) is located at the south of the area of the Ruhr. It has limits with the towns of Essen, Bochum, Dortmund, Hagen and Wuppertal as well as the districts of Mettmann, Mark and Haut-Berg. The district is crossed by a  highways; 1 (Cologne-Dortmund) and A  43 (Wuppertal-Bochum).

History

The district was created in 1929. It accepted its current limits on January 1st, 1975 when the city-district of Witten was integrated.
