The Enchanter
the Enchanter is a novel of Rene Barjavel writes in 1984. Barjavel takes again here the legend of the Chevaliers of the Roundtable and Merlin the Enchanter that it lovesong with his " sauce" and for our pleasure.
Barjavel chose Merlin as hero of its novel. Around him revolve of many legendary characters such as the King Arthur and his wife Guenièvre, Lancelot of the Lake, Galaad, Perceval and Bénie… The history is that of the Search of the Graal. This one disappeared, removing world happiness. In order to bring back peace and happiness in the heart of the men, the knights more the valiant knights met around king Arthur and will leave to research Graal. The knights of the Roundtable will be guided by Merlin. If the knights know many tests and must show their courage and their sincerity, the task is not easier for Merlin. Wire of the Devil, it decided to devote its magic to the Good but is not to satisfy its creator who will unceasingly try to try it. For each one, the Amour will undoubtedly be the most difficult test. The majority will doubt and fail in their search. With regard to Merlin, one discovers it man, his capacities and its eternal youth do not prevent it from suffering, to doubt but also to like: Viviane, the only one which sees behind the Enchanter the human being, the only one that he will like and which will like it for what it is.
Barjavel reveals in this novel the three models of knight existing with the Middle Ages: the warlike knight, the courteous knight and the knight in spiritual search.
Last work " merveilleux" of Rene Barjavel, the enchanter takes again the legend arthurienne on its account, without to move away it from the original screen. The originality of the work holds in the voluntary anachronisms: cans, the electric chimney,… Barjavel plays with a great relaxation with the legend, which in fact a light, funny novel. Barjavel gives pleasure and the reader feels it. But this lightness is sometimes criticized by the detractors of Barjavel.
The topic archi-present of the novel is without question the love, which touches the kings the queens, but also Merlin, who seems to us a being pulled about by the influence of his/her father, and its will to help the men.
