the Eighth Color is the first book of Annals of the Disc-world of the writer English Terry Pratchett. Translated by Patrick Couton, it was published in France in 1996 at Atalante (ISBN 2-84172-039-X) and in 2000 at Pocket (ISBN 2-266-11140-X). Original work was published in 1983 under the title The Color off Magic .

Synopsis

Deuxfleurs, citizen agatéen, unloads with Ankh-Morpork to make Tourisme. It takes for guide the magus Rincevent. After the visit and the fire of Ankh-Morpork, they leave on the roads the Disc and will visit:

• Country of the grass octarine and the Temple of Beautiful-Shamharoth
• Wyrmberg and its dragon S (Parody of the series of the Dragons of Pern of Anne McCaffrey?)
• the Kingdom of Krull, at the edge of the Disc, from where they will fly away in the Espace in order to observe Large the A' Tuin

Two divinities, the Lady and the Destiny, clash by their intermediary. The Lady, divinity of the Chance, try without stop to thwart the traps which the Destiny sends on their way. What makes it possible Rincevent to miss all its go with Death.

The continuation of the history proceeds in the Eighth Magic spell.
