The department of the Dordogne (24) is a department French of the area Aquitaine which owes its name with the river of the same name.
The department was created with the French revolution, the March 4th 1790 pursuant to the law of the December 22nd 1789, on part of old the province of the Périgord.

The inhabitants of the Dordogne are called Périgourdins or Périgordins (by analogy between the current department and the old province of Périgord which corresponded to him).
The Périgord is an Eden whose inhabitants seldom pronounce the republican name: The Dordogne. Here, of north in the south and of is in west, one is " in Périgord" .
