The Crusaders vs The Crusaders Jazz

At the beginning, the group was known under the name of The Jazz Crusaders and composed of the pianist Joe Sample, the beater Stix Hooper, the saxophonist Wilton Felder (its founder) and of the trombonist Wayne Henderson and played a Hard bop with the strong influences R&B and Soul. The guitarist of blues Roy Gaines will accompany them regularly. However, in 1971, the group is famous The Crusaders with the arrival of the guitarist Larry Carlton and chooses a register Jazz funk more general public, which incorporates more electric instruments. From this period celebrates it tube " will result; Street Life " (with the participation of the singer Randy Crawford), that one can hear in particular in the BO of Jackie Brown of Quentin Tarantino. In 1975, Wayne Henderson leaves the group to launch out in a career of producer full-time. In 1983, it is with the turn of Stix Hooper. That marks the end of the period with success of the group. The group will leave its last album into 1991 before a long pause, in which will take part only Joe Sample and Wilton Felder while in parallel, Wayne Henderson goes refonder into 1995 the Jazz Crusaders with Stix Hooper, Larry Carlton and… this same Wilton Felder, and this in spite of the objections of Joe Sample which does not see very an good eye this version alternate of the group of origin. Until 2003, this last version of the group perdure and continuous to only leave the albums, even if its style is rather far away from the Crusaders Jazz, first version of the group of origin. Eric Clapton made an appearance noticed on the album of the Crusaders Jazz published in 2003, " Drunk Axes ". This same year, the formation " officielle" The Crusaders makes its great return with the album " Rural Renewal " , this one cash among its members Joe Sample, Stix Hooper and Wilton Felder, are all the founding members except for Wayne Henderson.
