The Cranberries

The Cranberries is a group of Rock Irish, popular in the Années 1990. Although the group officially did not separate, its members announced in 2003 that they went during some time to concentrate only on their careers solos.

Origins

It is in 1989 that No5el Hogan and Mike Hogan, two brothers of Limerick, forms the group in company of the beater Fergal Lawler, and baptize it “ The Cranberry Saw Us ” (pun on the “Cranberry sauce”, “ Sauce ” being phonetically close to “ Saw custom ”). At the beginning, the singer is one their friends, Niall Quinn. After its departure, in 1990, they leave to research a singer and audition Dolores O' Riordan, a knowledge of Niall, which is immediately accepted in the group; with their request, this one written (while basing itself on an existing model of the group) the title “ Linger ”, who will be thereafter one of greatest successes of the group.

Their first audio cassette amateur is sold very well locally, and the group quickly records another cassette which gains an important interest at the local level as in criticisms. They change their name into The Cranberries , and send a third demonstration to several labels, comprising the titles “ Linger ” and “ Dreams ”. This demonstration was recorded in Xeric Studio of Limerick, held by Pearse Gilmore, which becomes also the manager of the group. It meets a sharp success in the press and several great English labels their propose a contract. The group signs finally at Island Records, which publishes already at the time the group U2. They record in 1991 individual of launching, “ Uncertain ”, which is a failure. That leads to tensions with Gilmore, which are increasing in 1992, right before the recording of the first album, when the group discovers that this last had signed a secret agreement with Island Records, relating to the purchase of material for its studio. They separate from him, and engage like managing Geoff Travis, of Rough Trade Records and as producer Stephen Street, who had already worked with The Smiths.

In does spring 1993 leave the album “ Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can' T We? ”, like two individual, “ Dreams ”, then “ Linger ”. But none them draw really the attention. The group thus leaves during the summer and the autumn to the the United States, to make the first part of the The and Sweden. They notice quickly that they are accommodated better in the concerts than the other group, which leads MTV to diffuse the clip of Linger regularly. Second part of the 90 ' S

During the round of No Need to Argue, rumors circulate that Dolores has projects of career solo, and will leave the group, but they are highly contradicted. They will persist despite everything during the recording and the exit, in April 1996, of a third album, heading “ To the Faithful Departed ”, with the producer Bruce Fairbairn, who had already worked with Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. This recording, much more rock'n'roll, does not meet the success of its predecessors in criticism. It will be even classified in the “50 worse albums of all times” by Q magazine in 2006. During spring 1996, the album enters in 2nd position of the charts to the United Kingdom and #4 to the United States, but individual “the Salvation ” does not manage to have as much success than the tube “ Zombie ”. It remains despite everything during four weeks at the top of the “ Bilboard modern rock'n'roll chart ”. In February 1999 leaves new individual, “ Promises ”, whose clip is turned by Olivier Dahan, which had already worked on “ Salvation ”. The years 2000

The year 2001 is that of the exit of the fifth and last album, “ Wake Up and Smell the Coffee ”, in October. It is produced by Stephen Street, which was already present for the two first opus of the group. In France, the album continues in the line of its predecessors, and manages to reach the 2nd place of the Signal 50 French in October 2001. The following year leaves a compilation successes of the group, “ Stars - The Best off 1992 - 2002 ”, as well as a DVD of the same name, comprising clips, the lives ones and a documentary heading “ 99 Love Life & Rock “Roll ”. The version CD will reach the 20th place with Signal 50 in the United Kingdom and will remain during 7 weeks in Signal 10 of the sales of compilations in France. Separation

In 2003, Cranberries announce their decision to take a little time to continue each one their individual careers. Dolores recorded an album solo left in 2007: Are You Listening? , and Christmas an album guitar, including in particular two songs launched in November 2004 on the service European of musical remote loading ITunes under the name “Mono Band”.
