The the Council of the Communes and Areas of Europe (CCRE) work to promote a Europe plain founded on the autonomy local and regional and the Democracy. To achieve this goal, he endeavors to influence the future of Europe by reinforcing the contribution of the local government agencies and regional, by influencing the Community legislation and policies, by supporting the exchange of information on the levels room and regional, and while cooperating with these partners elsewhere in the world, in particular within the framework of Cities and Plain Local governments (CGLU).
Activities of the CCRE
The CCRE works to promote plain Europe founded on local and regional autonomy and the democracy. To achieve this goal, he endeavors to influence the future of Europe by reinforcing the contribution of the local government agencies and regional, by influencing the Community legislation and policies, by supporting the exchange of information on the levels room and regional, and while cooperating with these partners elsewhere in the world. The CCRE covers a vast field of activities such transport, the regional policy, the environment, the equal opportunity, the governorship… Its commissions and work groups seek to influence the EU law to make so that the interests and concerns of the local authorities and regional are taken into account very upstream European legislative process. They contribute to the work programme of the CCRE by organizing seminars and conferences on many subjects in order to promote the exchange and the dissemination of local and regional experiments.
The CCRE is particularly proud of its single network of twinnings in Europe. There exist approximately 26.000 twinnings between towns of all Europe. On this point, the CCRE works in close cooperation with the Head office “Education and Culture” of the European commission. Lastly, the CCRE constitutes the European section of the new unified worldwide organization, Plain Cités and Local governments.
The European Charter for the equality of the women and the men in the local life
In May 2006, the CCRE launched a European Charte for the equality of the women and the men in the local life. The Charter is intended for the local government agencies and regional Europe which are invited to sign it, to publicly discuss the principle of the equality of the women and the men, and to implement, on their territory, the engagements defined in the Charter.
The twinning of the cities
For the CCRE, twinnings always constituted a vital means to bring Europe to the citizens across the national borders, a means of setting up plain and peaceful Europe with the approval of its population. The CCRE organizes at Rhodos, from May 10th to 12th 2007, a conference on “twinnings for the world of tomorrow”. How to develop new types of twinning? How to receive a financial support? How twinnings can help with social inclusion? They are some of the questions which will be put at the time of the conference.
