The Council of Paris

Since the law of July 10th 1964 on the reorganization of the Paris region, Paris is the only town of France which is at the same time a common (Town of Paris) and a department (Department of Paris). The Council of Paris thus has at the same time attributions of a Municipal council and a General advice, defined by the Loi PLM of 1982.

The Mayor of Paris, which chairs the Council of Paris, thus exerts also the president's functions of General advice.

Rules of procedure of the general advice

The Council of Paris meets 11 times per annum, i.e., in general, once a month. He is qualified to regulate, by his deliberations, at the same time the businesses of the commune and those of the department. He thus sits sometimes in training of municipal council, sometimes in training of general advice.

Composition of the commissions

There exists within the council of Paris nine composite commissions to the representation proportional from sixteen to twenty regular members and as many temporary members. These commissions are seized for examination of the written communications or the wishes and amendments of their competence. They have as a main aim to examine the businesses with the day order beforehand and to make it possible to the advisers to collect any precision which they wish on the corresponding files.
