The Council of Flanders

The Conseil of Flanders (in Dutch the Raad van Vlaanderen ) was more the high jurisdiction of the legal Ordre in the Comté of Flanders. It was created by the duke Louis Ier of Nevers. Later it was subordinated to the Grand the Council of the Netherlands with Malines.

The Conseil of Flanders was created the February 4th 1917 by “activists” (or “maximalist”) Flemish of which Auguste Borms in order to create, by acting with the German occupant , of new structures for the Flanders. He proclaimed the December 22nd 1917 the autonomy of the Flanders. He crumbled with the German defeat devoted by the Armistice of the November 11th 1918.

The “activists” were minority in the Flemish movement, the “passivists” (or “minimalists”) carrying it by playing the political game in the Belgian State in war.
