The Conseil of defense of the Empire is the authority of the free France which held place of Gouvernement of 1940 to 1941.

This role is then taken again by the French National committee .

It is in proclamation of Brazzaville of October 27th, 1940 that the de Gaulle general announced the creation of this council.
