The Community of agglomeration Perpignan the Mediterranean

The Communauté of agglomeration Perpignan the Mediterranean is a EPCI, public corporation of inter-commune co-operation, or French inter-commune structure , located in the department of the the Eastern Pyrenees and the area Languedoc-Roussillon.

It is made up of the following communes:

Competences

History

It replaces since December 31st 2000 the community of Small fireclay cup-Mediterranean communes. December 31st, 2005, the communes of Barcarès and Torreilles have, in their turn, integrated " the agglo". The departure of Barcarès of the community of Salt marsh-Mediterranean communes caused strong reactions in certain elected officials.

The development of an agglomeration including/understanding 24 communes and representing more than 60% of the population of the inhabitants of the Eastern Pyrenees is not without causing some concerns on the creation of a " département" (a). Three new communes incorporated the EPCI in January 1st, 2007: Baixas, Calce and Saleilles.

It as should be noted as since 1982, date of the first decentralization, wanted by the Mitterrand team - Removes iron (and all laws which followed since, Chevènement included), the areas were to replace, in the near future, the departments, and the same, the communities of communes, agglo or urban were to replace almost the commune. The goal being to make economies in term of structures, investment, material and employees.
