The Community of Emmanuel

The Communauté of Emmanuel is an association of faithful of pontifical right, founded in 1976 starting from a group of prayer of the charismatic Renouveau Catholique, created in 1972 with Paris by Pierre Goursat and Martine Laffitte-Catta.

Objectives

It is about an association the faithful ones of pontifical right, including/understanding members of various states of life (unmarried, couples, priests, brothers and sisters devoted (E) S in the celibacy). Its goal is to allow the answer to the call to holiness sent by God to any man. It is particularly by the eucharistic Adoration, the compassion and the evangelization which its members want to express the presence in the world of Jesus-Christ, Emmanuel, God with us.

The means suggested with each one to grow spiritually are multiple. They go from the group of prayer (generally weekly), with the household (small group of people which meet in a rate/rhythm regular, weekly or every 2 weeks to request together, to share the word and the work of God in their life) with the monthly Community meeting. The members of the community can profit from guides and see themselves proposing formations and lesson to grow in the faith.

Organization and activities

In 2005, the community counted 7200 members, of which the half in France. Among those, nearly 200 priests, a hundred seminarists, a hundred sisters and brothers devoted in the celibacy.

With Paray-le-Monial, each summer, the Community organizes international sessions gathering of the thousands of people each one, bound for the families, of the young people, the 25-35 years, the pensioners, the priests, the health professionals…

The Community of Emmanuel also takes part in the organization of many events of importance, like the Notre-Dame mission, each year in Paris during the holidays of All Saints' day, or the Congresses for the New Evangelization of Vienna, Paris (2004), Lisbon (2005), Brussels (All Saints' day 2006)…

The Editions of Emmanuel propose many works of formation, testimonys. Three bookstores, the Houses of Emmanuel (Paris, Lyon and Rennes), propose a broad choice of books, CD and objects religious.

From 1986, French bishops wished that Emmanuel be able to put at the service parishes. This contributed to redynamiser those, for example with the parish of the Trinity (Paris) where was created the Center Trinity which offers many training cycles human, theological or spiritual for believers or incroyants.

The Community of Emmanuel has many apostolic branches:

- S.O.S. Prayer is an open phone number 24:00 /24. At the end of the wire, a brother listens to the distresses of appealing and requests in front of the Blessed Sacrament for the intentions which are entrusted to him. S.O.S Prière exists in Paris (01 45 44 31 31) and in Lyon (04 78 36 89 89), or 0.820.366 312 starting from January 15th, 2007 from all France.

- Association Love & Vérité propose with all, and in particular to the families and to the parents alone, to answer the questions which they can raise on the love, sexuality, family life. She also proposes formations and a reflection in bioethics.

- Presence & Témoignage propose to make known the social message of the Church (the preferential Option for the poor), seeks to give all its direction to work, by lesson and sessions intended for all, frameworks, workmen, craftsmen…

- The Fidesco sends for two years of the co-operators in countries in the process of development. Single people, couples with or without children, they leave as male nurses, accountants, data processing specialists, logisticians, living poorly and thus exerting the compassion requested by Christ.
