The Commonwealth of England

The the Commonwealth of England was the republican government which controlled the England, then also the Ireland and the Scotland of 1649 to 1660.

After the decapitation of Charles Ier of England on January 30th, 1649, its existence was initially declared by the " Parliament tail " May 19th, 1649 (" An Act declaring England to Be has Commonwealth" : an Act declaring England as being the Commonwealth ).

Strictly speaking, the government between 1653 and 1659 are called the Protectorate and took the form of a Dictature of Oliver Cromwell (then of his/her son Richard with its death), as a Lord Protecteur. The term of the Commonwealth is also used to indicate the system of government between 1659 and 1660. These two Commonwealth are integrated in the English Interrègne, of 1643 to 1660.
