The Coast

the Coast ( The Coast ) is a fictitious place of the Série of video game Half-Life . The east coast the littoral area ranging between Quoted 17 and Nova Prospekt. The control of the Cartel was recently tightened in this area, forcing many rebels along the coast has to be limited to small pockets of resistance.

After having crossed the infested city of zombis of Ravenholm, Gordon Freeman reaches the Coast and spends one day to skirt Nova Prospekt to reach Nova Prospekt and to find Alyx Vance there.

Overall picture

The East coast mainly seen like a desert ground by the technology of the Trust after the War the Seven Hour old. The Coast makes it possible to see the catastrophic effects of the occupation of the Trust on Ground like the exhaustion of the natural resources, the raids of the Trust on the outposts of resistance, the sending of missiles returning “crab of head” of the uninhabitable sectors. Most of the littoral, whose many roads, was severely damaged by the application of the rules of the Trust on Earth. The East coast also occupied by hordes of Swarmed which hides under sand, waiting to detect the least movement surfaces some to emerge. It is due mainly to the fact that, at the time when the player crosses the Coast, them Fourmilions is at the beginning of their period of coupling, resistance and the Trust has also many problems to defend oneself some. Most of the Coast was abandoned because of the proliferation of Fourmilions, and much of thumper of the Trust hammer the ground on the spot to keep them away. To judge of it by the presence of carcass of shell “crab of head”, of small portions of the Coast became infested by the zombis and other faunas resulting from Xen. Highway 17, and several stations of résitance, are located along the coast.

Dilapidation

The state of the Coast highlights the overexploitation of the natural resources of the Earth by the Trust. The ocean like “was aspired” and the sea level is lower than ever, all the quays and the landing stages can be seen located at considerable distances from the ocean itself and most of the beach is strewn with boats failed or destroyed resting on what was the sea-bed before. When Gordon arrives at the port, at the beginning of the chapter “Highway 17”, the ocean is still far. Indications on the old sea level can be raised by looking at foam that there was previously on the foundations of the port at the edge of water, but which are now several meters higher than the level of the ground.

Various places

Auroroute 17

Auroroute 17 (or Highway 17 in original version) is one of the many coastal roads which connects Cité 17 to the cities and close factories. Part of the road was strongly damaged. Auroroute 17 also leads to Nova Prospekt, and extends on several kilometers. Many coastal small villages are visible road, being used as refuge with many members resistance even if the raid of the Trust in the area were tightened recently. Auroroute 17 crosses also many tunnels although several of them were completely closed down and were invaded by the zombies and the remainder of the wildlife of Xen.

Nova Prospekt

The principal permeter of the prison of Nova Prospekt is localized on the edge of the Coast, in cliff peak. This part of the East coast disfigured by many bunkers of the Trust which are used as advanced defensive stations with the prison. Several of these bunkers are connected to older fortifications, going back to before the establishment from the Trust, recognizable by their concrete foundations. Imposing thumpers is also located along the beach to prevent that them Fourmilions does not approach the building. In spite of the many defensive installations located close to Nova Prospekt, Gordon Freeman arrives has to clear a passage towards Nova Prospekt, with the assistance of Fourmilions that he managed to tame. During the passage of Freeman in the prison, it is probable that defenses around Nova Prospekt, bunkers and thumpers included/understood, were put out-service as them Fourmilions inserts the walls of the prison. To become area after the departure of Gordon and Alyx is unknown.

St Olga

St Olga is a rather large coastal village. At the beginning designed to be part of the chapter Higway 17, the idea was abandoned during the development to appear finally in Half-Life 2: Lost Coast . St Olga shelters a Byzantine church and only one inhabitant, an old fisherman. The church was a target of drive for the launching of the missiles “head of crab” that the player could see launched in real-time. During the play, a small dozen missiles atterit in the village. Like all the bases of resistance, the village was subjected to an air raid and a descent of the soldiers of the Trust. It is impossible to reach the village and only a small portion of St Olga is browsable.

Post Resistance

Resistance has a rather small but rather powerful position in the area, constantly attacked by raid of the Trust and air attacks. Several bases of resistance along the coast were taken by the Trust and were given up. For this reason, the remainder of resistance One does not know if the résitance in the corner always exists or if it were overcome by the Trust after the events of Nova Prospekt. It is also possible that the bases of réssitance closest to Nova prospekt were also destroyed.

Shorepoint

Shorepoint, located on, is the principal base of resistance in the area. Located at the entry of Highway 17, for the beginning of the coast itself, Shorepoint is used as a basis of operations for all the activities of resistance along the coast. It is directed by a member veteran of resistance named Leon. As seen in the play, Shorepoint has a Buggy in a place called it “” that Gordon Freeman borrows to skirt the littoral while escaping Fourmilions and with the outposts of the Trust. When Gordon arrives at Shorepoint, the Trust tackles the base, but is pushed back. Shorepoint is connected to Ravenholm by a railway line and a mine.

New Little Odessa

New Little Odessa is the other important base of the area. Ordered by the colonel Odessa Cubbage, the base is victim of an attack of a vessel of the Trust during Half-Life 2 , in which Gordon Freeman helps to push back the invader by handling a lance-missile with laser aiming. Before reaching the base, the player can see New Little Odessa with far with its on other side of bay. That enables him to aprcevoir Odessa Cubbage discussing with the G-Man with the balcony the building (one of the assumptions would be that G-Man informed Cubbage of the imminent attack of the Trust on the basis, to see that it provides it even out of lance-missiles). The name of the base could come owing to the fact that it is directed, to see founded, by Odessa Cubbage. Its destiny after the events of Half-Life 2 remains unknown.

Lighthouse Not

Lighthouse Point is the second post office of resistance that Freeman crosses on its road towards Nova Prospekt, and marks the end of Highway 17 (and end of the crusade in buggy). Lighthouse Point is him also the target of an attack of a vessel of the Trust but its position allows a better defense than New Little Odessa. The Phare itself ensures a cover, the top of the headlight is an ideal place for the situations of combat where the Trust would try an air raid on the basis. The name of the base comes owing to the fact that it is about the only base of resistance with a headlight.

Vortigaunt camp

The last of the base of resistance does not have a name, it is localized with bottom of a Canyon and in caves. It is close to the base of Lighthouse Point but cannot be rejoijnt that while crossing grounds populated of Swarm. The base places several resistant and especially of Vortigaunts. One of the vortigaunts Gordon guide through the base and in the cave, in which one teaches in Gordons how to use the phéromones Fourmilions to guide and order this species. After this initiation, Gordon is carried out towards a beach which leads to Nova Prospekt. The base is protected by a machine-gun with impulses at the entry.
