the Clockwork orange ( has Clockwork Orange in the British original edition) is a novel of science fiction of Anthony Burgess published in 1962. Burgess is inspired a little its own life, because his wife was violated whereas he was British soldier during the Second world war.
The action proceeds in London, in a near future. An young delinquent (14 years), Alex, share with his band of drougies to occupy its evening. It flies, viol, torture, bldg. One day, it is made stop and left in prison. One will make him undergo a treatment: the Ludovico treatment. Following this one, violence and the sex make it sick. Only, when it is released, it must face its old victims…
This novel has paces of philosophical novel, showing the rise of violence, the danger of a company where one is not free any more.
An amusing detail of this book is that Alex speaks a méta-slang, the Nadsat, composed of Russian, of manouche (the speech romani) of English and French. Throughout the book, the narrator (Alex himself) will use only this language. At the end of the book a lexicon of this language is annexed.
the Clockwork orange was the subject of an adaptation to the cinema, in a Film carried out by Stanley Kubrick: Clockwork orange ( has Clockwork Orange ), left on the screens in 1971.
Note:: the novel and the film carry the same title ( has Clockwork Orange ) in their original versions, but the French titles differ: the Clockwork orange for the novel and Clockwork orange for film.
