The Clean

The Ramones were a group of Punk originating in New York and which belongs to the first formations of the movement Punk. Founded in January 1974, the group recorded 14 albums in studio and carried out many rounds before separating in 1996. Their look was detached by his minimalism and its neglected aspect: long hair, leather jackets of the Years 1950, Jeans torn with the knees. This style will be taken again later by the movement Grunge. They did not hesitate to play with the black humor accompanied by a music intersected with slogans, such as for example " Happy one the brat with the baseball bat" (: " Type on the kid with a beater of bases-ball") or the provocative title of Blitzkrieg Bop, an allusion to the war carried out by the Nazi Germany (the second direction of this song is a homage to the " kids" fans of Ramones who break out in their concerts), like " Today your coils, tomorrow the world" in reference to the famous " Today Germany, tomorrow the monde" of Hitler. Naturally, these titles are only of the punk provocation… The four Ramones influenced with a few urban months in advance the kids of the first wave Anglo-American Punk, in particular The Clash and the Sex Pistols. In 1976, they recorded an album before turning in England. Ramones were produced by Phil Spector in 1979 for the album End off the Century which left in the vats in 1980.

History

Formation

After having spent a few months in prison, Douglas Colvin meets John Cummings, his new neighbor. The two young people trail often together, John often bringing his best friend Robert Hyman. Douglas and John test himself with the music. Robert introduces his little brother Jeffrey to them, him also musician who sang in the group Sniper , this one has a difficult adolescence, returned at his place by his mother it male prostitute and remains a few months in psychiatric hospital. The group starts as of 1974 with Douglas with the song and low, John plays of the guitar and Jeffrey of the battery. After several tests with the song, Douglas leaves finally the microphone to Jeffrey. The group engages Thomas, a friend who dealt with the technical part of the group. The group chose the name of Ramone in homage to Paul Ramon, first pseudonym of Paul McCartney, bass player of the Beatles including four Ramones, especially Dee Dee, were fans. Each one takes a nickname then: for Jeffrey it will be Joey, for Douglas DeeDee, John Johnny and for Thomas it will be Tommy. It should be noticed that none the members was an expert musician: they reflect 2 hours thus to install the battery at the time of their first repetition.

Beginnings

The group leaves a first album éponyme in 1976 then Leave Home and Rocket to Russia in 1977. These three albums prove to be the best albums of the group. Tommy withdraws group and leaves its place to Marc Bell alias Marky Ramone. The group leaves then Road to Ruin in 1978 an album between pop and Hard-rock.

The years 1980

In 1980, the album End off the Century , produced by Phil Spector is a certain success. The following albums Pleasant Dreams (1981) and Subterranean Jungle (1983) remain in the line of the first ( Pleasant Dreams being certainly most pop of all), but Too Tough to Die in 1984 approaches the Punk hardcore. Meanwhile Marky is returned Ramones because of problem with alcohol. It is initially replaced by Richie Ramone (Richard Reinhardt), for one 5 years period, this last after having left some songs to Ramones (Somebody could something in my drink, taken again later by Children Of Bodom.), leaves the group, wearied empty promises of 3 other members. Indeed, even after 5 years in the group, it did not profit from its share on the sale of mechandising (that did not represent money badly). The old beater of Bleached, Clem Burke, under the name of Elvis Cleans takes the rods for 3 concerts. Finally Marky, débarassé of its alcoholism finds its place within the group. Shortly after the album Brain Drain DeeDee leaves the group, tired rounds and drug. It inteess with the rap at the time of a detoxification therapy and launches out in this music under the pseudonym of Deedee King, total failure, it is replaced by C.J. Clean in 1989, beacoup young person than others Ramones (Johnny wanted a kind of young person DeeDee, drug in less).

The years 1990

The group begins this new decade by changing recording company, after having passed to 16 years near Lord Records the group joined Radioactive Records.

Years 1990 will be also remembered by the exit of Mondo Bizarro in 1992 and Acid Eaters in 1993, an album of recoveries. They leave ¡ Adios Amigos! in 1995, an album close to their beginnings but which will be nevertheless the last of the group.

It follows one year of round from there. And a last concert with Los Angeles to which was invited Lemmy Kilmister, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell and Rancid, without forgetting Deedee Ramone (which will be given some to heart joy to inflict its song with the song Love Kills). Ramones separate officially in 1996, after twenty-two years of live career, fourteen albums studio, three albums and three compilations.

  • Joey is Ramones to have only played in the album End off the Century : not liking the way in which Phil Spector wanted to record the album, Johnny, Marky and DeeDee had left before to have even started to record (In the DVD End Of The Century, Johnny declared that Spector made him start again tens of time the same front, this last would have threatened the guitarist of a firearm during the recording of the album End Of the Century in 1979)
  • the first four albums appear among most popular that the group recorded and in spite of several attempts, them Ramones will reach near the public only with difficulty this level of simplicity, shifted humor and corrosive which made their style. The fifth album, End Of The Century , 1979, could have fallen under the same line if the producer Phil Spector, the “king the pop one”, had not obliged the group to occur accompanied by violins and piano in order to give him a better access to the radio stations FM. The most famous titles of Ramones remain Blitzkrieg Bop , on the first album, with its slogan “Hey Ho, let' S go! ” and Pinhead with its punk proclamation “Gabba Gabba Hey! ”.

It is a Scottish group, The Bay City Rollers, and its song " Saturday Night" , which influenced Joey for the song " Blitzkrieg Bop" . They were also influenced by other groups such as the Who, the Kinks, the Troggs and the Yardbirds.

Ramones influenced in their turn of other groups such as the Clash and the Sex Pistols. Sid Vicious said that its resumption of " My Way" was completely influenced by Ramones. A song of Clean entitled " Bad Brain" will inspire its name with the Bad Brains, another fundamental group of punk American.

The song Chain Saw, will undoubtedly point out Chain Saw Massacre to you (Massacre with the slicer)
