the Cicada is a Parisian theater .
History
Located on the Boulevard of Rochechouart, in the district of Montmartre, the room was built in 1887. It specializes in the spectacles of Cabaret and accommodates the spectacles of Mistinguett, Maurice Chevalier, Arletty and the futuristic evenings of Jean Cocteau.In the Years 1940, the Cicada becomes a Cinema, one moment specialized in films of Kung-fu.
In 1987, reopening of the Cicada with the Rita Mitsouko, thanks to Jacques Renault and Fabrice Coat, two former second-hand dealers, and cofounders of the nightclub “the Public baths”. The room is modernized and decorated by Philippe Starck. The artistic director and commercial is entrusted to Corinne Mimram which, until today, directs the establishment. Transformed into general-purpose theater, the Cicada then becomes one of the most appreciated places of spectacle capital.
In January 2007, the Cicada signs a partnership with SFR and will be called for two years Cicada SFR . The room is in relation to the black Ball and Trabendo.
The room is today classified historic building.
Accommodated artists
The Festival of Inrockuptibles has been held for 20 years with the Cicada, just as the Festival Factory. The room also accommodated Iggy Pop, Charles Trenet, Johnny Hallyday, Bonnie Tyler, Kim Wilde, Jango Edwards, Kylie Minogue, Noir Desire, Renaud (for a 6 hours concert on September 29th, 2007), Oasis, Radiohead, Page & Plant, Claude Nougaro, Jamel, - m, Louise Attaque, Manu Chao, MUSE or Norah Jones.
The room
The room can accommodate 1389 people maximum (for the concerts where the public is upright) or 954 people (for the spectacles with sitted public). The ground of the orchestra is equipped with a flexible platform which can be inclined and to rise thanks to a system Hydraulique.
Anecdote
The coffee located beside the Cicada is called the Ant .
