The Chronic

The Chronic is the first album solo of the Rap fear Dr. DRE left in December 1992. This album launched the style G-Funk created by DRE as well as the career of Snoop Doggy Dogg, which appears on almost all the pieces, in particular “Ain' T nuthin' goal has G Thang”, “Fuck butt DRE Days”, “Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat” and “The Day the Nigaaz Took Over”.

A major album of American Rap

Sold with more than 4 Million copies, The Chronic of Dr. DRE is an album impossible to circumvent of US Rap.

Musical production

This album launched the style G-Funk . Based on many samples funk of the 70 ' S, the pieces are characterized by a slower tempo where the lines the low ones are dominating and where melodies, played synthetizer, come over the low ones.

Lyrics and environment

The trademark of the album is especially the praise made with the cannabis (the Chronic is a variety of Cannabis of L.A. and the small pocket is a homage to the packages of sheets to be rolled of the Zig-Zag mark). The words of the album are not the major attraction of The Chronic. They generally report the life of the Californian ghettos, namely drug, murder, bloody competitions between gangs and sex raw. Despite everything a title makes exception to the banality of the words: Fuck Wit DRE Day (And Everybody' S Celebratin') .

Fuck Wit DRE Day (And Everybody' S Celebratin') and competition between Dr. DRE and Eazy-E

This title is a diss track , namely pieces where one or more rappeurs are violently taken with party. In Fuck Wit DRE Day (And Everybody' S Celebratin') it is Eazy-E, Tim Dog, and Luke (of the 2 Live Crew) which are the targets of DRE and Snoop Dogg. DRE is the former partner of Eazy-E with which it founded N.W.A and launched its career. After the last album of N.W.A in 1991 DRE leaves the group because of a financial dissension. Is born the competition between the two men. Throughout the first verses Dr. DRE tackles violently Eazy and its label Ruthless Records in order to discredit them completely. The answer of Eazy-E will be a mini album of 8 titles, heading It' S One (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa , all bound for DRE, Snoop and Death Row Records. The second verse (interpreted by Snoop Dogg) is an attack against the rappor of Bronx Tim Dog which had insulted the rappeurs of Los Angeles before.

Impact

This album will be used as springboard in Snoop Dogg for its future album Doggystyle which will leave in 1993. Thanks to The Chronic DRE will reach the dedication and its label Death Row became one of the most important labels of the music.
