The Cheetah (film, 1963)
the Cheetah ( It Gattopardo ) is a Franco-Italian film of Luchino Visconti left in 1963, Palme of gold to the Cannes festival 1963, drawn from the book the Cheetah of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa.
Synopsis
The action occurs in Sicily, in the years 1860 - 1863. At the time of the unloading of the army of Garibaldi to Palermo, prince Fabrice Corbera de Salina leaves his field with his family, for his palate of holiday in the village of Donnafugata. Understanding that the days of feudality passed, it ensures the marriage of its nephew Tancrède with Angelica, the girl of the rich person liberal mayor of Donnafugata, Don Calogero.
Comment
Through a fresco where the historical reconstitution is meticulous and esthetic, Visconti dissects without useless nostalgia, the change of the feudal and rural world towards a modern and republican society.Visconti declares: “ I marry the point of view of Lampedusa, and say also his character, prince Fabrizio. The pessimism of prince Salina leads it to regret the fall of an order which, for motionless that it was, was nevertheless an order. But, our pessimism takes care of will and, instead of regretting the feudal order and bourbonien, he aims at establishing a new order. ”
