Characters

  • Jarod : main character of the series, it was removed with his parents in his childhood by a secret organization called the “Center”. He is endowed with an intelligence supranormale (it is a " Caméléon" , it can become which it wants) but in its enfermement does not know the simple things of the life (like the ice creams). He will escape from the “Center” in 1996, after 33 years of enfermement.
  • Miss Parker : girl of Mr. PARKER, chief of the “Center”. Its first name remains unknown. She is charged by the “Center” with finding Jarod, with the assistance of Broots and Sydney. She is the only friend of childhood of Jarod and he is his only friend. She persists in seeking Jarod so that his/her father lets it resign and thus find his freedom. She is, like Jarod, in the search of her mother, supposed dead but in strange circumstances.

  • Sydney : psychologist, it is him which dealt with Jarod in its childhood. He is the only contact, with Miss Parker and Angelo, that Jarod kept in the “Center”. He represents for Jarod a kind of paternal presence. And, as opposed to what much of anybody believe, his family name is unknown, it is not " Green" …

  • Broots : data processing specialist, it works with Miss Parker in the search of Jarod. He has nothing to do with the bad intentions of the “Center” and one wonders how it was able to work there. Timorous, extremely impressed by Parker Miss who maltreats it, it appears to be the only normal person of the “Center”.

  • Groove : the man with the bottle. It is the number two of the “Center”, and cruelest of all, hated by the team of Parker Miss. One will discover in the last telefilm, " the Cave of Diable" , that he is the biological father of Parker Miss.

  • Angelo : it is a man who became " fou" because of the “Center”, its capacities to be communicated with the outside world were inhibited, but which keeps a very close link with Miss Parker and Jarod. It is able to interpret drawings and to envisage the future to some extent, and feels misfortunes to come. It is a empathe.

  • Mr. Parker : father of Miss Parker, it is the chief of the “Center”.

  • Lyle : twin brother (hidden) Miss Parker, it was made cut the inch by Yakusas following a business with them, it also works him in the “Center”. It is a cannibal, he eats in particular the Asian young people.

  • Brigitte : woman of Mr. Parker to whom, it will give a child but who will kill it just afterwards. Hated Miss Parker, it is nevertheless it which will proceed to its childbirth. That will bring them closer.

  • Major Charles : father of Jarod, former member of the military unit of the " Ring of Feu" (Donoterase I & II). It is that which manages to find the sister of Jarod, Emily (Inner Sense). It was separated from his wife and her daughter a long time ago now and is, like Jarod, with their research.

  • Ethan : half-brother of Jarod and Miss Parker. Exceptionally gifted young man, it has the gift of " caméléon" of Jarod, and Judicious Inner of the Parker women. It was born from an artificial insemination: the sperm of Major Charles having been established as a Catherine Parker so that it puts at the world a " super caméléon" , a being equipped with the intellectual abilities of Jarod as its 6th direction (capacity to hear voices which guides it in its life). Raised by Raines, which killed C. Parker right after the birth of the child, it was handled as well as Jarod, at the point almost to become a killer. Groove had ordered the orchestration of an bomb attack to him (using a subway train), but this plan is thwarted by the intervention of Jarod. The series finishes on the scene of the explosion, which occurs a few seconds after the jump of Jarod, Ethan and Miss Parker out of the coach. In the first telefilm, one learns that he survived, but disappears finally. Nobody knows where it is currently.

Telefilms

The stop of the diffusion of the series on NBC and the repurchase of the rights by the chain TNT gave place to two telefilms intended to enclose the four seasons of the Caméléon and carried out in 2001 by Frederick King Keller:

Comments

The popular success of this series, both in the United States and in France rests mainly and above all on the double intrigue of the series:
  • Each episode tells a finished history

  • Each episode (or almost) is accompanied by a search for indices revealing the mystery around the origins of Jarod, the true activities of the Center.
  • In each episode, Jarod discovers an object or a Gadget and does not separate any during all the episode (candy distributers Pez, Mr. Patate,…)
  • During season 3, a crossover in two parts was set up with the series headlight Profiler diffused consequently chain at the United States (in France also). The intrigue starting in one to conclude itself in the other. The extraordinary meeting of Jarod and Samatha Waters led the producers of the two series to renew the experiment during season 4. However, and with the difference of Samatha, a idyle in love will be created around Rachel and Jarod. Jarod will return ultimate once besides to lend strong hand to Rachel during one of the ultimate episodes of Profiler . No bond attaches this history to the series the Chameleon. It is thus about an adventure with share of Jarod, which is not reproduced on the DVD of the series.

Steven Long Mitchell and Craig W Van Sickle were strongly inspired by famous Ferdinand Waldo Demara.

The decorations external of the Center are the purification plant of water R.C. Harris, with Toronto, the Canada. Its frontage is built in Art déco
