After the foundation of the abbey of Saint-Pierre on the edges of the Marne by the order Benedictine, it becomes Chézy the Abbey. The abbey burns into 887 at the time of the invasions Normans. At the 12th century, fleeing the engagements between the troops of Louis VI the Large and of Thibaud de Champagne, the monks rebuild the abbey in the middle of the village. In 1414 penadnt the War One hundred Year old, in order to counter the English invaders, the village is strengthened and the abbey transformed into strong Château, but this one is set fire to at once and will be definitively destroyed shortly after the Révolution. In 1791 Chézy the Abbey became the Chézy-on-Marne.

Before 1755, at the time when the road of Germany (current trunk road 3 of Paris to Saarbrucken) still skirts its ramparts, the borough knows a rather great prosperity. One manufactures there fabrics and one made there the trade of the wine and grains, which is been useful by a commercial port established on the Marne. During several centuries, in addition to the abbey church, the borough has two parish churches: Saint-Martin-of in-Low, located apart from the walls at the edge of the Parer which will be destroyed towards 1850, and Saint-Martin-of in-High which, devastated by the Guerre One hundred Year old, will be rebuilt between 1515 and 1555. At the time modern, in spite of terrible devastations due to the war of 1870 and the two world wars, the construction of a station the SNCF on the line Paris - Strasbourg will give a new rise to the village.
