The Cardigans is a group of music Swedish. The musical style of the group changed album much into album, passing from the Rock independent with a music inspired of the Années 1960.

Each album of the group succeeded in drawing the attention of various audiences. With their first album, Emmerdale (1994) they managed to be surrounded by an hard core of fans in their own country, and were pointed out abroad, in particular with the Japan. But it is necessary to await their second album, Life (1995), so that fans and critics of the whole world notice them.

The group is made known with the world hit Lovefool , drawn from the album First Band one the Moon (1996). This participation in the original soundtrack of the film Romeo + Juliette realized by Baz Luhrmann ensures their popularity, and although some consider that they will quickly join the mass of the artists of a tube, the group is again success with individual the My Favorite Game and Erase/Rewind , all two drawn from the album Gran Turismo .

History

Peter Svensson and Magnus Sveningsson, both followers of heavy metal, form the in October 1992 group with Jönköping in Sweden, with the beater Bengt Lagerberg, the pianist Lars-Olof Johansson and the singer Nina Persson. Whereas they divide the same apartment, The Cardigans record a demonstration which arrives at the ears of the producer Tore Johansson. This one then decides to invite them for a meeting of recording in a studio of Malmö. In 1994 leaves Emmerdale , their first album, to Sweden and in Japan (this album will profit from one arisen international in 1997). The album includes the title Rise & Shine which quickly becomes a tube on the Swedish radios (he was elected better song of the year 1994 at the time of a survey published in the magazine Slitz ).

The group passes the remainder of the year 1994 in round to Europe and records their new album Life , which leaves in the whole world in 1995. Life becomes a planetary success, being sold to more than one million specimens and becoming platinum disc in Japan. In 1996 Life leaves under the label Minty Fresh to the the United States, but this edition is primarily a compilation of the preceding albums Emmerdale and Life .

After the success of the album Life , The Cardigans sign with the label Mercury Records which ensures the world exit of First Band one the Moon in 1996. Lovefool becomes a tube throughout the world, particularly with the the United States and Japan, where he sees himself decreeing a platinum album after only 3 weeks.

Gran Turismo , left in 1998, to the darker colors, is followed by a long station-wagon during which the members of the group develop solo projects. The same year, they leave a compilation little known faces B, The Other Side off the Moon , only in Japan, with the result that this album is rather rare apart from Japan.

During this station-wagon, Nina Persson leaves an album solo, has Camp , and Cardigans record a duet with Tom Jones, Burning Down the House , which appears on the album Reload . Peter Svensson works with the project Paus with the assistance of Joakim Berg of the group Kent, and Magnus Sveningsson records under pseudo Righteous Boy. The Cardigans turn over in studio in 2003 with Long Gone Before Daylight , a calmer and introspective album, turning to an approach more country of the music. it is a deep album whose cardigans estimate that it is their best album, because most personal, and that gets along (indeed for this album the cardigans did not call upon their usual producer Tore Johansson and were thus not influenced by him). Made ballades or of rock'n'roll energetic, eclectic, it proposes the smoothness and qualities of composition of the group through pieces such as Communication , And then you kissed me , Couldn' T care less , For what it worth , and 03.45, No sleep .

Their sixth album, Super Extra Gravity , left in October 2005, is undoubtedly their album more ends since it takes again to a good portion of the gimmicks group, and makes evolve their music to a rock'n'roll at the same time very personal and single born from multiple sources perfectly comparable and remelted by Peter Svensson. It is a very homogeneous album on the level of the sound where the work of Johansson Torus marks the idea of what must-being rock'n'roll. The passage of a sound clean and rather country has this opus resolutely blacker and gross, where one finds the talent of Bengt Lagerberg to the battery a little in withdrawal in their before last album.

Several things impress in this Long album compared to gone before daylight , it is on the one hand, the musical unit which this album releases. The Cardigans seem to have found this spirit of group that the last album, after 5 years of interruptions and solo projects, had not completely succeeded in producing. Peter Svensson, guitarist and type-setter of the group, wanted that each piece has its personality, but that the latter form however a homogeneous stylistic unit, and the result is with the height of its talent and that of the group. Nina Persson, the singer of the cardigans, affirms herself more and more like true a song-writer, and her very beautiful voice, of which Peter can be useful itself perfectly, complete with wonder her compositions in their bringing more a great depth still.
