The Canopy

the Canopy is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Its inhabitants is called the Verriérois .

Geography

The commune of the Canopy is located at approximately 16 kilometers with the west-south-west of Versailles and at 19 kilometers in the North-East of Rambouillet, its chief town of arrondissement.
The commune is made up of three relatively distinct parts: in the south, near the Mesnil-Saint-Denis, a suburban district of which the major part of the dwellings was built between the years 1930 with 1960; in the North-East, also of the houses enclosing the administrative buildings (town hall, municipal police, case of health insurance, vault, recreational center) with, to the extreme is, the district of the Bois of the Pond composed of HLM of the Années 1970 and where the cemetery is; finally, in the west, separated from the village by the park of the castle become the institute Marcel River, a zone of activities called Orly-Park , in edge of RN10.

The communes bordering are Élancourt in the North-East, the Mesnil-Saint-Denis in south-east, Coignières in the west and Maurepas in the North-West.

The communal territory is bordered in north by the Trunk road 10 (Paris - Spain) and in the east by the secondary road 58 which carries out, towards north, with Élancourt and, towards the south, with the Mesnil-Saint-Denis and Dampierre-in-Yvelines. The secondary road 13 crosses the western part of the commune leading, towards north then the North-West, to Montfort-l' Amaury and, towards the south, also to the Mesnil-Saint-Denis then with Chevreuse.

The Gare of the Canopy is on the railway line active of Paris to Rambouillet. It is the terminus of the Transilien Paris Saint-Lazare and a station of the Transilien Paris-Montparnasse.

History

The parish of the Canopy was created in 1739 by the fusion of three hamlets, Small-Glass, Large-Glass and Agiot, detached the same year of the parish of the Mesnil-Saint-Denis on the request of the lord of the time, Jacques Cordier of Launay, adviser of Roy and general treasurer of extraordinary of the wars.

Become a commune with the Revolution, it remains during the 19th century a commune of small size, although its situation at the edge of the main road from Paris to Chartres (current RN10) encourages migrants to settle there. In 1836, the census of population counts 90 inhabitants. In 1872, it does not have there more that 73, and in 1901 80 people live in the commune.

The creation of the new city of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines in 1968 will support the development of the commune.

The Community of Agglomeration

The Canopy constitutes with six other communes (Elancourt, Magny-the-Hamlets, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Trappes and Neighbors-the-Bretonneux) the agglomeration of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines, Ville of art and history. The Trade-union Committee of the Community of Agglomeration is composed representatives elected by the Municipal councils of the 7 communes.

The Community of Agglomeration manages economic development, the information system strategic plan of transport, the local program of the habitat, the Politique of the city and the Community equipment of interest like the Theater of Saint Quentin in Yvelines or the network of the Media libraries. It manages also the large infrastructures: roadway system, networks and green areas.

The City ensures the management of the equipment and the organization of the services set up to meet the needs for the inhabitants, of teaching to the roadway system, while passing by early childhood, the sport, the culture, social protection…

The president of the Communauté of agglomeration is Robert Cadalbert (PS), in addition Assistant Maire of Guyancourt.

There are also two establishments of care, managed by MGEN:

  • the Institute Marcel River
  • the center of Forest Denis geriatrics
