The Call of Cthulhu

the Call of Cthulhu ( Cal off Cthulhu ) is one of most famous the Nouvelle S of the American writer H.P. Lovecraft.

Built with the manner of a succession of worrying facts reported by a narrator, this text reveals the existence of very old myths dominated by a malefic deity, Cthulhu, which made a spectacular appearance there. Written in 1926, this news became the angular stone of the remanent literary universe of Lovecraft, giving its name to a Roleplay inspired by the Mythe of Cthulhu: the Call of Cthulhu , created by Sandy Petersen and published at Chaosium.

In 2006, a video game of the name of Cal off Cthulhu: Dark Corners off the Earth left on PC and Xbox. It is held in the town of Innsmouth and refers in particular to the roleplay éponyme like with the news the Nightmare of Innsmouth ( The Shadow Over Innsmouth ).

Anecdote

  • the group of heavy metal Metallica used this title for its first instrumental piece in 1983; this one will be on the album Ride The Lightning (1984) and S&M (1999). They entitled it Off The Call Ktulu and not Cthulhu in reference so that Lovecraft in its news wrote: the simple mortals are not authorized to spell nor to write its name. On Master off Puppets (1986), they created The Thing that should not Be like Orion , there still of the references to the myth of Cthulhu. Another group of metal being strongly inspired by the literature of Lovecraft: Cradle off Filth, with, for example, on the album Midian , the track Chtulu Dawn .
