The Breton thought

the Breton thought

Is the title of a poem of Taro (bull) anonymous of the ten ninth century.

The review " the Breton thought " by Yves Febvre of 1913 with 1925 is animated. It is an association " philosophical , arts person, artistic and scientific " founded on June 1st 1913. In the first number of the Breton Thought, the newspaper of Association, it presents holding them and the outcomes of the action that it intends to carry out:

" It calls upon all the Breton ones released enough from the narrow dogmas to act " jointly; … " We will help Brittany to even take again conscience of it, to find the originality of its genius. We will raise it with the outside by regional exposures or the share which we will be able to take with other exposures. " … " We will tear off the Breton thought with the clerical reaction which it étreint of all shares like a prey. " … " The Breton Thought will work of any heart to the emancipation of the Breton race. It will be regionalistic in the best direction of the word, but hostile with the fanfaronnades of a separatism that nothing justifies….It is in free and alive Brittany that we appeal. We call some with its young talents, its young energies, its wills in awakening, tended towards the good and the beautiful one. "

Extracts

  • the Breton language, this overcome which did not know to create a chief of work and which necessarily will be erased, as is erased and died the old worn things. (...)
The maintenance of the Breton language is not only one error, it is a double evil for France and Brittany. It is an evil for France whose this survival delays the unit and reduces by-effect the capacity of expansion and radiation. It is an evil for Brittany which it deprives men who had been useful and glorious. The day will come, we hope for it, where all the Breton ones will be able to write and speak French. This day the Breton language will have lived. ” (Yves Febvre, the Breton Thought, January 1920)
