The Breeders

The Breeders is a group of American Rock of Boston, founded in 1988 by Kim Deal, then bass player of the Pixies, and Tanya Donelly, then guitarist of the Throwing Muses, two of the most influential groups of the Bostonian scene independent of the end of the Années 1980. After the activity of these two groups slowed down, The Breeders became more important for the artists.

Their first album was Pod in 1990, recorded by Steve Albini. The influence of Kim Deal is obvious, but one can feel the personal key of the bass player Josephine Wiggs and of Britt Walford, the beater of Slint (alias Shannon Doughton).

On the four titles Safari , Deal did not form any more part of Pixies and had engaged his/her sister twins Kelley to play of the guitar with the Breeders. Donelly left the group for Belly and the beater Jim MacPherson integrated the group in time for Last Splash . “Cannonball”, one of the titles of this album had a great success.

In 1995, Kelley Deal was implied in a business of Drogue; his/her Kim sister then formed in parallel the group The Amps with MacPherson and two others. After its detoxication, Kelley founded Kelley Deal 6000, then also formed Last Hard Men with Sebastian Bach, the singer of Skid Row, Jimmy Chamberlin, the ex beater of the Smashing Pumpkins and Jimmy Flemion of the Frogs.

Rumors concerning the reformation with the original members continued to circulate during the Années 1990, although they were based only on the cover of “Joining”, recorded for the original soundtrack of MOD Squad. The Deal sisters recruited several musicians for a series in concerts in 2001, and turned over in studio with the guitarist Richard Presley, the bass player Mando Lopez, and the beater Jose Medeles to record the third album studio of the Breeders, Title TK , with Steve Albini. In 2004, Warner Music Group announced its intention to separate from the Breeders following the too weak sale of albums of Title TK . Warner decided at the same time to also separate from several other artists.
