The Bottom is the chief town of the island of Sheba in the Dutch West Indies. It is in this city that the Lieutenant-Governor of Sheba resides.
The city is built in the content of an old crater of volcano located in the south-western quarter of the island. It is connected to the sea by a staircase cut in the rock called the Ladder which counts nearly 400 steps.
The city shelters off the Sheba University School Medicine , a medical school which shelters approximately 250 students, for the majority American.
Since 1958, a road connects The Bottom to the other agglomerations of the island.
