Synopsis

The film begin with the presentation from the seven generations from Clement which built the colossal fortune of the family. Jean-Marc Clément is the eighth in the line and he is billionaire, but he forever be married nor does not have of successor.

Its staff teaches him that a satirical re-examined is assembling which will make fun of him, in particular of its propensity to have very many female conquests. He decides to go to the site, with a repetition, in order to judge by itself. That enables him to become acquainted with Amanda Dell, dancer high-speed motorboat of the troop. One also takes it for the actor who will interpret the Caricature of Jean-Marc Clément: " That' S just his stupid look! " (Completely its stupid air!) him is said…

Clement allocates a new identity then: he is called from now on Alexandre Dumas, " like the écrivain" , and is too an actor him. It is also pilot affection that stand as Amanda and the other high-speed motorboat of the troop, Tony. He tries to point out himself - of Amanda - by telling a joke in front of all the troop, but it is the total bide.

While buying a new joke - new this one, with 1  000 dollars -, Clément announces with his advisers that it will join for a few days to the theater company. With the following repetition, Clément tells on the scene his new funny story, but the true author is present and causes a whole hullabaloo, whereas Clément cannot obviously reveal that he was the official purchaser. Amanda defends it. To thank it and as he is representative in paste jewelry, he offers a bracelet of 10  to him; 000 dollars which it makes pass for a superb imitation, superb imitation which almost will finish around the wrist of another.

The adviser George Wales, discovering that a company of the Clément group is responsible for the contract with the theater company, organizes a bad blow against this one. Clement solves the business by taking incognito 51% of the shares of the spectacle.

Conscious of his lack of talent, Clément engages Milton Berle, Bing Crosby and Gene Kelly to teach him the strings from the trade. Berle even once comes to a repetition to say all it although it can of this new genius of the New Yorkean scene which is Alexander Dumas. Clement alias Dumas obtains even an increase in his seal and that of Amanda. At a forthcoming working session, the silent partners require that Clément interpret with Amanda the key song of in the place of Tony. Amanda, to give all in order, accepts an invitation at the restaurant with Clément. He acknowledges to him which he is really, but which can believe it?

The history can finish with the premises of the Clément undertakings where Amanda can only be made with the idea that the man whom she loves is a billionaire.

Around film

Some general remarks

  • At the request of Marilyn Monroe, her husband Arthur Miller, famous Playwright American, will intervene to pack a little more the role of this one. It is not credited with the credits.
  • the actors Yul Brynner, Cary Grant, Charlton Heston, Rock'n'roll Hudson and James Stewart have all be approximate for the role of the billionaire but refused it, either that they feared will have it of Marilyn or because of the difficulties encountered by this one during its last turnings (delays, absences…). Gregory Peck was withdrawn from the production after having read the version of the scenario re-examined by Arthur Miller. Yves Montand was then called, after having played in the Witches of Salem ( The Crucible , 1957), based on a part of Arthur Miller.
  • the American humorist Milton Berle, the singer and actor Bing Crosby and the actor and dancer Gene Kelly are called during the intrigue to give lessons of comedy to Jean-Marc Clément, lessons which will prove not very conclusive because of the lack of talent of French, and will thus interpret their own role.
  • This film whose translation of the French title is an interpretation rather wise and edulcorated American title ( Faisons the love or Flirtons ) was called by certain The movie whose title Marilyn Monroe and Yves Montand took too seriously (the film whose Marilyn Monroe and Yves Montand took too much with serious the title) because of the adventure in love which they lived at that time during a few weeks. Simone Signoret, married with Yves Montand since 1951, confirmed it and even commented on that she regretted that Marilyn never knew that she had never wanted some to him.
  • the high-speed motorboats caricatured in the spectacle are the soprano Maria Callas, the singer rock' roll Elvis Presley, the pianist and the billionaire Jean-Marc Clément.
  • Jean-Marc Clément, the billionaire of French origin of film, saw its fortune being built on seven generations before him (even if at one time in film it evokes only five of them). According to the first sequence of film, all its ancestors named already Jean-Marc like and have all be to him extremely attracted by the sex known as weak:
1°: at the 17th century, a bad peasant discovers in his field a trunk filled with gold and the fact of bearing fruit.
2°: his/her son consolidates fortune in the balloons (upward) and bequeaths in 1777 to his 300  death; 000 francs…
3°: industry of armament… and death in an explosion, the first to die vertically…
4°: a gained duel makes emigrate the 4th Jean-Marc in New York where it makes (even more) fortune in the real estate…
5°: about 1855, the son of the precedent invests in the railroads and transport in boat…
6°: died at 91 years, 6th is at the origin of the Statue of Freedom and the Eiffel Tower and leaves 400 million to its descendant…
7°: … continuous in aviation and oil and bequeaths… 1 billion Dollar S with… Yves Montand.
  • For the anecdote and the math student, the 4th Clement has the fine nose because it buys 800 (in the English original version) in part of New York lost and uninteresting which names… Wall Street. In the French version, the 800 acres were transformed into 400 Hectare S: 800 acres represent 320 hectares is 3,2 km ², whereas 400 ha make 4 km ².
  • Still for the math students, directed economy this time-ci : in film, when one arrived at the billion the 7th Clement, the commentator off indicates that the interest of the interest on a billion dollar would give 70  000 dollars per week of income. Like that, each one knows what one causes. That corresponds to an interest rate 360/360 of 6%.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn is a star since the Niagara and is first of the generic of sound 28e and penultimate film; in spite of that, it occupies the screen much less than Yves Montand, omnipresent with his French accent. Its sequences:
  • During a repetition where she dances and sings, Marilyn appears, at the 13th minute of film, in a broad diluted blue pullover (the stereotypes of this scene were widely distributed). It removes it and throws it… on Yves Montand. Then from this number, Montand will be presented towards it.
  • In the following repetition, Marilyn bouquine and Montand comes papoter. After the misunderstanding of the joke, they still discuss at the cafeteria. They leave the repetition in trench coats and run in the street. Then the discussion becomes more intimate.
  • a new repetition where Marilyn plays and sings in a black justaucorps then in a white dress.
  • Still a repetition with increase in seal, Montand on the scene and Marilyn in a new song. Another number in eccentric pyjamas.
  • Marilyn comforts Frankie Vaughan which has just been isolated main role.
  • Marilyn and Montand in a Chinese restaurant.
  • In its cabin the following day.
  • Finally in the building Clement where it includes/understands finally all the history and its feelings.
Marilyn interprets in this film the songs " My heart belongs to Daddy " (of Cole Porter), " Let' S make coils " , " Incurably romantic " and " Specialization ".
