The Beautiful one of Cadiz
the Beautiful one of Cadiz , is initially an operetta whose booklet is signed Raymond Vincy and Marc-Cab, the words Maurice Vandair and the music Francis Lopez. The leader is Jacques-Henry Rys. The shortly after the Release, the December 22nd 1945, the three blows are struck with the Casino Montparnasse with in the main role Luis Mariano.
History of its creation
As in 1918, the operetta seeks a new breath at the end of the Second world war. It is Phi-Phi , which gives the kickoff of the new operetta to the threshold of the mad years; nearly thirty years later the Beautiful one of Cadiz mark the beginning of the golden age of the operetta with large spectacle according to 1945.Actually, the history of this Belle starts in 1938…
Raymond Vincy, collaborator of Alibert for his Marseilles operettas and his reviews, then write the booklet of a work whose history does without the side of Marseilles. The high-speed motorboats envisaged are the singer Rina Ketty and the comic Marseillais Gorlett. Titrate considered: Trial marriage .
The world war not making it possible the project to concretize itself, the project is hidden at the bottom of some drawer…
Finally the hostilities end… In all the artistic fields of new heads of poster appear. Francis Lopez starts to be known. Its Robin of Wood , valiantly interpreted by Georges Guétary, is on all the lips. Luis Mariano is pointed out with the radio and the variety…
In its book of memories, Francis Lopez tells that the director of the Montparnasse Casino asks him for a spectacle hardly two months before the festivals of end of the year 1945. It is necessary to make quickly. Marc-Cab thinks of Raymond Vincy who arises his Mariage with the test . Why not? But Marc-Cab would prefer that the action proceeds in Hungary. Then, the Beautiful one of Budapest ? Francis Lopez leans rather for the Spain. Marriage Gipsy ? The agreement is done on Spain. Lopez proposes Luis Mariano as head of poster and than vogue the galère! The final title is selected: it will be the Beautiful one of Cadiz .
The work is assembled to the economy, but with enthusiasm by a troop of young people. One hardly thought of exceeding the 50 representations: the work is played nearly two years and is taken again in 1949 in a version with large spectacle by Maurice Lehmann with the Théâtre of the Empire. the Beautiful one of Cadiz will be still programmed in Paris in 1958 (Gaîté-Lyric), 1977 (Mogador), 1979 (Rebirth), 1991 (Eldorado) and 1995 (Mogador).
To say that the booklet renews the kind would be a little excessive. But the work is well balanced and the type-setter knew to mix in his partition, the feeling, the exoticism and the dynamism which could only like a public come to seek an expatriation which it was not yet able to offer itself “for truth”. The majority of the airs of Beautiful the were successes: “The Beautiful one of Cadiz”, “Fiesta Gipsy”, “Maria-Luisa”, “the Bell-tower of the village”, “Go under the Moon”… the Beautiful one of Cadiz will become a musical film interpreted by Luis Mariano and Carmen Sévilla in 1953.
Today, the Beautiful one of Cadiz is undoubtedly the operetta of Francis Lopez most often with the poster of the French scenes.
