Beaumont is located halfway between Alençon (24 km) and Mans (25 km). Fresnay-sur-Sarthe is to 12 km, Ballon to 13 km, Sillé-the-Guillaume to 21 km and Mamers with 25 km.
Comme its name indicates it, Beaumont is bordered by the the Sarthe.

History

  • Of the XI {{E}} at the 14th century, the family of Beaumont dominates this area of the Maine. It holds the Viscount of Beaumont, Fresnay and Holy-Suzanne.

  • Formerly called Beaumont-the-Viscount, it was built at the origin at the edge of the the Sarthe inside a elliptic Muraille to be protected from the various conflicts related to its geographical position: it is located at the north of the the Sarthe, between the Normandy and the Maine.
  • Beaumont-the-Viscount is of course the capital of the Contrepèterie (already quoted by François Rabelais).
