The Barracudas
The Barracudas was a British group of rock'n'roll of the years 1980.
History
The Barracudas are formed with London in 1977 around Robin Wills and Jeremy Gluck, Canadian musical journalist following a meeting with the club Speakeasy or Wills surprises a conversation of Gluck on the Seeds. They recruit Nick Turner with the battery and David Buckley with low.Of all the rock'n'roll influences' roll which they share, they choose, in the perverse car-promotional spirit, least probable in London and decides to become a group of Surf music. Their first 45T I Want My Woody Back in 1979 is sold to 5000 specimen and the cover of the magazine Sounds as well as a contract with EMI is worth to them. Summer Fun/His Last Summer , the second simple one reaches the 37e place in the British charts and with a passage to the television program Top off the Pops will remain their closer access to glory.
Whereas EMI hopes for more Surf title to continue on the impetus of successes, the Barracudas turns to an increasingly hard music. The first album Drop out with the Barracudas watch already this evolution. A face is made up of the Surf titles whereas the second includes/understands titles plus violent one such as I Saw My Death In has Dream Last Night (I saw my death in a dream last night).
EMI gets rid quickly of this group too independent of spirit and the Barracudas, regarded as an obsolete group whereas the Romantic wave Nouveaux breaks on the hit-parades finds without recording company.
After a change of personnel on the level of the rhythm section, and the arrival of Chris Wilson, former member of The Flamin' Groovies, with the guitar, they are likely to meet with the Havre Philippe Debris, which forms the label Closer records to leave their second album Mean Time .
A third album Endeavor to Persevere will follow in 1984, financed by the album Live 83 on Coyote records, false bootlegs left by actually Closer and the Barracudas.
More popular in France and in the rest of Europe that in the United Kingdom, the group separates in 1985 whereas Gluck wants to move towards a music increasingly harder and that Wills and Wilson lean towards a rock'n'roll inspired of the Byrds.
Gluck creates Civilization Machine and after a disc solo in company of Nikki Sudden becomes novelist. Wills after a short episode with the head of The Fortunate Sons becomes consulting marketing.
They are reformed in 1989 for rounds and an album Waiting for Everything which will leave in 1991. They are again together in 2003 for rounds and a new album left in 2005.
