The Barber of Siberia

the Barber of Siberia ( Sibirskiy tsiryulnik or Сибирскийцирюльник) is a Russian film carried out by Nikita Mikhalkov in 1998.

Summary

In 1885, an insane inventor imagines a machine to be deforested, which could be a solution for the immense forests of Siberia. To obtain the benevolence of the Tsar to the project, the inventor uses the charm of a charming person, who thus will approach a general, ordering the school of the juniors by the Russian army… It is the beginning of a terrible history of love and deportation, on bottom of setting in scene of the marriage of Barber , of Mozart, a “large type-setter”.

In 1905, Jane Callaghan writes a letter with his/her son, raises in an American military academy. The American one decides to reveal to him the real circumstances of its birth. In 1885, Jane is in Russia. She works for an engineer of the name of Douglas McCraken, which seeks to sell to the Russians a machine to be deforested that he names “barber of Siberia”. Jane must be made pass for his/her daughter, with mission of alluring authorities and future customers. But at the time of its routing towards Russia it becomes acquainted with a young soldier of the name of Andrei Tolstoï, impassioned music and progressively from the history fall in love one with the other. But Jane must for its mission of alluring the Radlov general who can finance the end of the construction of the machine. Jane manages to arrive to its ends because the general éprend of the American young person and Tolstoï load of reading his proposal but the young man passionately in love cannot achieve his spot and acknowledges his feelings. But at the time of the representation of the opera in which he plays, Andreï, jealous attacks the general whom he makes become for an attempted murder. The junior is sent in pregnant prison leaving Jane. She will seek it during years and will finish ten years later by falling on her house in which she will understand that he is too late to recover it.
