Synopsis

Thorgal and them his were captured by merchants of slaves. Purchasers present themselves, among whom the intendant of the governor of a Roman province in the search of Barbarians for one surprising shooting party…

At 18 years, the noble young people of the court of the governor pass their examinations of officer. One of the tests consists to continue and kill prisoners. That makes it possible to evaluate their skill to draw with the arc. Thorgal will be one of game! But, when this one seizes the arc of the one of the hunters, the exercise takes an unexpected turning. As the law wants it which returns freedom to the survivors, Thorgal is then freed. Its first wish of free man: to find its wife and her children. The governor promises to reach his wish if it proves that he is an archer of exception. With its great stupor, Thorgal discovers that its target is not other than a young slave survivor, like him, of the Kingdom under Sand. By the extreme precision of its shooting, it succeeds in slicing the bonds which block the teenager. Amazed by this exploit, the governor ends up granting a semi-freedom Aaricia, Jolan and Louve. This gesture of leniency however irritates his/her Héraclius son whose sadism and cheating have of equal only the hatred of the Barbarians. It is the Thorgal Barbarian whom this one chooses nevertheless as team-member to take part in the great armed tournaments which will proceed in Rome in the presence of the emperor…
