The Alps of North

The the Alps of North are a non-administative geographical area of the the French Alps located in the area the Rhone-Alps (for the major part) and in the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Geography

Situation

The watershed separating the Alps from North and of the South follows the southern limit of the Vercors, passes by the Col of Cross-High the, follows the southern peaks of the Dévoluy, passes by the Col Bayard, follows the southern peaks of the Écrins and passes by the Col of Lautaret.

This limit corresponds to the division of water between the catchment Area of the Isere and that of the Durance. It includes/understands by order of number of French department:

  • the part of the Hautes-Alpes located at the north of the watershed separating the Alps from the north of the Alps of the south (05);
  • the part of Vercors located in the Drome (26);
  • the south-eastern half of the Isere (38);
  • the Savoy by excluding the Savoyard Tectonic foreland there (which belongs to the the Jura) (73);
  • the Haute-Savoie (74).

Population

The Alps of North are relatively populated, with broad valleys (Grésivaudan, Maurienne, Tarentaise, Vallée of Arve) and great agglomerations (Grenoble, Chambéry, Annecy, Annemasse, Albertville, Megève, Chamonix-Mount-White).

Climate

The Alps of North undergo a mountain Climat with oceanic tendency degraded. The Isotherme zero degree average in winter is located towards: 1000 meters of altitude.

Activities

The Alps of North misent especially on white tourism, but try to diversify the activities suggested, especially on average mountain.
