Synopsis

The honest abbot Constantin, priest of Longueval, learn with consternation which the castle of Longueval has just been sold to Americans that it supposes Protestant, Scott. In his entourage, one finds his maidservant, Pauline, the gardener of the castle, Bernard, and his godson, Jean Reynaud, lieutenant of cavalry confined to the close borough. But Mrs Scott and her young sister, BETTINA Percival, prove to be gracious catholics, who make consequent gifts with the poor of the parish and quickly conquer all the country by their simplicity. Returned in Paris, the ladies of the castle continue the fashionable season there…
