The Ézy-on-Eure
the Ézy-on-Eure is a common French, located in the department of the the Eure and the area High-Normandy.
Geography
the commune of Ezy-on-E RUE is located in the valley of the Eure at approximately 30 km at the south-east of Evreux in the department of the Eure at the doors of Normandy. Paris is to 75 km. The valley of the Eure, which runs in Ezy in direction of the North-East, is boxed in a zone of plates which drops rather regular inclined since south-west (171 m) towards north and is (between 130 and 135 m).the major part of the commune of Ezy is located in the valley and rests on recent alluvia which correspond to deposits of overflow or end of raw themselves resting on old alluvia made up of siliceous rollers in a matrix argilo-sand spreader rich in iron. Subjected to the dominant winds of western sector , the area of Ezy enjoys a moderate and wet climate.
Only one aquifer is well-known in the area : it is about chalk of the higher Cretaceous whose maximum capacity is about 250 to 300 meters. The ground water is located at less than 2 meters of depth.
the vegetable cover of the area of Ezy consists of calcicoles in cash rich groupings which tend towards a final forest stage to pubescent Chène and Hêtre in the zones to weak relief and remains at the herbaceous or shrubby stage when the relief is accentuated more. Taking into account the geological and climatic conditions favorable, this area constitutes a biotope where one of the principal hearths of settlement of the southernmost type of the Western Paris basin remains. One finds in Ezy with the locality the White Coast of the very rare vegetations: four orchises already protected by decree of April 3rd, 1990 and a multitude from other species to which in particular the scorsonère of Austria and the service-tree of Fontainebleau belong.
the Eure has a regular flow due to the contributions of the underground ground water and its general quality in the sector of Ezy is currently good.
History
Ezy has its blazon " of money, with the sand lion armed, and lampassé of gueules" (black lion on white zone, red language and claws). It was that of Louis of the Brushes, lord of Bastigny, owner of Ezy in 1645 because of the stronghold of Sassay that his Marie wife of Bourges had brought to him in dowry in 1621. the name of Ezy would come from AISSACUM or ASIACUM : Latin name meaning area sprinkled by water, or name of a Gallo-Roman owner: ASIUS (Asiacum being the field of Asius).
With an altitude of 124 m, the Hillock of Ezy , called today the Hillock with Pig - name of a former Clerk of the forest of Dreux (François Cochon), become forestry commissioner of the family of Orleans which employed the last years of its existence (1880/1890) to plant with perseverance more than 80.000 fir trees in this place - was a not strategic and an excellent point of oservation of the Roman way Lutèce-Ebrovicus (Paris-Evreux). One fears was installed there at the time feudal.
Another witness of old Ezy: The CELLARS dug in the marly limestone of the hill at the 18th century there to store the wine and to thus escape the granting. These suckers were also inhabited by a heteroclite population of 1876 with 1914.".

Personalities related to the commune
Maurice de Brossard of the Borough (1909 - 1997) Admiral of the French National marine. He was one of the fathers of the French Naval Aviation while making pass the Navy of his stage of balloon pilot to that of holder of aircraft carrier thanks to clever ideas and a heat to work ever contradicted. He was " combatant, discoverer, writer, academician, painter, servant of France".
Florentin Godard (1887 - 1956) Founder of bronze of art of the XXe very apprécidé century of Maillol. Leon Hulin (1861 - 1939) wire of Felix Hulin (City council man of Ezy), pioneer of the French electrolytic industry, born in Ezy (the Eure) on June 1st, 1861, died downtown this same on August 27th, 1939. Leon Hulin had, in particular, the clever idea to manufacture hydrogen peroxide directly starting from the sodium péroxde.
Andre the Jordan (1814 - 1892) Owner and at the origin of the manufacture of the comb in horn, it is known for its poems and its fables. He was Maire of Ezy of 1858 to 1878.
Abel Lefèvre (1870 - 1948) Journalist, printer, deputy, senator. He is at the origin of the progress made after the Great War in the department of the Eure: electrification of the campaigns, water conveyance, etc
Frederic Passy (1822 - 1912) Lord of the manor of Ezy of 1847 to 1875, erudite economist, member of the institute, politician, it was dedicated to what was to be the great idea of his life: " peace by the arbitration between nations" , and organization of peace a true apostolate made. Supreme homage, it accepted in 1901, the FIRST NOBEL PRIZE OF PEACE, with Henri Dunant, founder of the Red Cross.
Alfred Veillet , (1882 - 1958) Painter of the French School which painted in particular landscapes. Born in Ezy but lived in Rolleboise (Seine-et-Marne) where it is buried. A landscape of Vétheuil under snow was acquired by the State in 1952.
