Thann

Thann is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace. Its inhabitants is called the Thannois .

Toponymy

The name of the city comes from German Tanne , meaning fir tree . A fir tree is reproduced indeed on the blazon of Thann. (But it is as possible as this name comes from “dammnus” (damage), of a city in ruins, to see Old man-Thann and Thann.)

The city is located at the foot of the the Vosges and at the edge of the the Thur.

The population was estimated in 2003, with 8.145 inhabitants. The number of registered voters on the electoral roll is of 5.235 people in 2007. It was of 5.070 in 2002.
