Thammasat university
The Université Thammasat (in Thai มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ ) is a prestigious university inhabitant of Thailand. Thammasat (in Sanskrit Dharmaśāstra ) means literally “right science, right knowledge”. The university was in the past called Université of sciences morals and policies (in Thai มหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมือง). It is the second older university of Thailand and one of most prestigious of the country. It was created the June 27th 1934. Initially, she proposed four fields of studies: the Right, trade and the Accounts Department, the Political sciences and the Economic scenes, but it since extended its activities to branches such as the Journalisme, the Lettres and the Sciences. These seventy last years, the university formed a great number of graduates who contributed to the development of the company and the country.
Since 1934,240 000 students followed courses to the university. Among them, Prime Ministers, politicians and civils servant of first rank, governors of the Bank of Thailand and majority of the governors of the town of Bangkok. Its faculties of trade and accountancy, right, and economic scenes were classified among the best of Southeast Asia.
Phrachan campus, which is smallest and oldest, the students of Thammasat played a crucial role at several stages of the democratization of the country. On several occasions, of the demonstrations on the implying campus of the students and the citizens turned to the massacre. One key moment of the history of Thailand was the October 6th 1976, when a repression forces by the army and the police force took place there. Today, the Phrachan campus is still the principal symbol of the Human rights, freedom of expression and the democracy in Thailand.
Carrying out the significant impact of the Sciences and Technology S on the economic growth of the country, Thammasat started in the Années 1980 and 1990 to develop diplomas of Engineer, Physical sciences and Médecine on the campus of Rangsit, in the province of Pathum Thani (northern suburbs of Bangkok).
The university is also member of LAOTSE, a global area network of European and Asian universities. She also cooperates with some of the most famous universities of the world. One of these regional co-operations is the Network of research and universities of the under-area of the Large Mekong.
Campus
Currently, the university has six campuses in the country, but the two principal ones are the Thaprachan campus and the campus of Rangsit. The Thaprachan campus represents the historical cradle of the Thammasat University. This is in particular due to the events which have occurred into 1976 which saw a rising studying in meeting with the other large university of Thailand, the Université Chulalongkorn. Faculties of journalism, right, political science, the liberal arts (letters), social science and management occupies the buildings of them. The campus of Rangsit is much more recent. Built for the Asian Plays of 1998, the site since is occupied by several faculties: Structure, engineering, SIIT (Sirindhorn International Institute off Technology, school having a partnership of exchange with ISEP). The sporting infrastructures are placed at the disposal of the students. Several gymnasia, a watery dome and an Olympic stadium are thus the hosts of various sporting tournaments between students.
