Thaleichthys pacificus

Thaleichthys pacificus , whose name running is “eulakane” (sometimes called “Poisson-candle”), is a small fish which constitutes the only species of the kind Thaleichthys of the family of the Osmeridae (éperlans). The word “Thaleichthys”, formed starting from the old Greek Θάλια ( thaleia ) meaning “rich” and ιχθυς ( ichthys ) meaning “fish”, evokes strong the Teneur of Huile of this fish.

The eulakane is a fish Anadrome, i.e. that he generally saw in Fresh water but reproduces in Sea water. He saw in the Pacific Ocean, water bordering the zone of moderate Forêt wet lain between the south of the Bering Sea and the north of the California. The duration of its life is relatively short.

Since the Years 1990, a notable reduction in the number of eulakanes in several rivers of the Canada and the the United States, was noticed by specialized companies. Studies are in hand in order to determine the actions to implement.
