Thaïcom-4

Thaïcom-4 is a satellite geostationary of more than 6,5 tons which must provide, during more than twelve years, of the numerical services and Internet High banc in 40 countries of the Asia-Pacific area.

History

It was launched Thursday August 11th 2005 with 8:20 GMT since the Guianese Space center. It is about the 18th successful launch by the launcher ARIANE 5 G, identified like flight v166. Because of its weight, it is largest satellite civil of telecommunications to be placed in Orbite of geostationary transfer to its launch date. The first countdown had been stopped automatically at 15 seconds of the lighting of the engines for engineering problems on the launching table. The problems were quickly solved.

Composition

This satellite is equipped with 20 repeaters in Bande Ka and with 51 repeaters in Bande Ku (equivalent with 1000 traditional transponders of 36 MHZ). Since its orbital position with 120° Is, it will ensure during more than 12 years multi-media access Internet and services on all the Asia-Pacific area (its service goes from New Zealand until in India and from the Australia until the Japan and Korea)

IPstar is the first satellite in the world entirely dedicated to services IP in " broad bande". This project cost approximately 650 million USD.
