History
Origins
When there is more than 2000 years the Romains colonize the area, they do not meet a Gaulois in our plains. The local population is mainly made up of Elysiques and Ibères come from the south. One cultivates the olive-tree and the vine there, but it is with the honey of our scrubland, considered by the Romans as the best of the Empire, than will owe us our fame. Local nectar was offered to the gods with Rome, and it is said that it was worth his gold weight on the market of Carthage. At the beginning of the 8th century the Arab invade the kingdom Visigoth of Septimanie, they will be batût by Charles Martel into 737 at the time of the Bataille of Berre. Narbonne will be the last city of future France has to be released.
The Middle Ages
Gomezinde
Towards 790, Gomezinde, noble Spanish of origin wisigothe and companion of Charlemagne, east invests by this last on the grounds of Donos . It built there a strong castle which one still sees on the peak the vestiges of the double ramparts. At the same time the brother of Gomezinde east invests on the grounds of Fontjoncouse.A royal charter, gone back to 859, carrying the seal of Charles the Bald person, confirms Gomezinde in its property rights on the seigniory of Donos of which the 4000 hectares include a broad part of the territory of the commune of Thézan. This seigniory will be during several centuries, by oath of allegiance, related to the Crown of France. Consequently, and rare exception in the area, it had of account to return neither to the Count de Toulouse nor to the Vicomte of Narbonne, but only directly with the King de France.
The field will remain the property of the descendants of Gomezinde during thousand years.
Churches
The Saint-Paul church, built with the foot of the castle to the XII {ème} and XIII {ème} century, could accommodate up to 300 faithful. At the 11th century the small Holy church Eulalie (of the name of holy Spanish), is mentioned for the first time. Around this church the village of Thézan will what is called be rolled up in Circulade S inside the Fort .
After the Middle Ages
In 1720 the village counts 67 buildings. The large crossroads of the Couverte does not exist yet and the crossroads towards Staint Laurent , Donos , Coustouge, is close to the source (currently Cross-Russet-red intersection and street of Montagut).Thézan is a pastoral village, one raises there the Mouton whose Laine is re-elected and one cultivates a little all there: olive-tree with the Cereal S. In 1807, the fields of cereals cover 700 hectares here. There us remain about it Moulin S in ruins and names evocative such as Vente Flour . The vine one speaks about it little and one produces little of it. It is only cultivated, for family consumption, on the escarpées and rocky slopes, where the culture of cereals is difficult. In 1807 the cereals occupy 7 times more cultivable grounds than the Vigne.
Preindustrial and modern time
And sudden, after the French revolution and with the beginning of the industrial era, all is swept and rocks in a few decades. Consequently in Corbières all will be Vignoble and anything else. The village is modernized. To facilitate the passage of the carts one cuts down the old covered streets and to make large and rich one builds in 1860 the current church after having demolished the bell-tower of the old vault, symbol of a completed past. It is at that time that the principal artery of the village bordered of houses to the broad carriage entrances is built to let enter the attachments (avenue of the Sea and the Station). Towards 1880, in full golden age, which gallops demography will count more than thousand inhabitants. The dedication will come with the train, which makes of Thézan the most important crossroads of Corbières. That the small tram with vapor comes from Narbonne, of Durban, Mouthoumet or Port-la-Nouvelle, and where that it goes, it passes by Thézan.
It is also the time of the great festivals, the cavalcades and the orchestras of Jazz.
