A théophanie (of the radical Greeks théo- , “god”, and phan- , “appearance”) is, in the field religious, the demonstration of a god or God, during which normally the revelation of a divine message to the men or simply a warning takes place.

In the beginning, the Greek term θεοφάνια/ theophánia indicated, in the ancient religion of these people, a festival during which one publicly exposed the totality of the statues of the gods, especially with Delphes.

With the advent of Christianity, the term preserves the significance of divine demonstration: l´apparition of the Burning bush with Brace and the birth of Jesus-Christ are essential théophanies of l´histoire vétéro- and néotestamentaire.

Often, one speaks about “théophanie trinitaire”. Abraham would have seen the Trinity close to the Chêne of Mambré. The Christian tradition tells that Jerome de Stridon, Marie-madeleine de Pazzi and Lucia back Santos transfers the God-Trinity.
