Théodose III (in Greek: Θεοδόσιος Γ ΄) was Empereur of Constantinople of 715 to the March 25th 717.

He was tax collector of taxes in the south of the topic of Opsikion. According to certain theories, he would be the son of the former emperor Tibère III. When the troops topic of Opsikion rebelled against the emperor Anastase II, it was selected as emperor. Théodose did not accept this choice easily. According to the chronicler Théophane the Confessor, it even tried to hide in the forests close to Adramyttium. Finally, it was found and he was proclaimed emperor in May 715.

Théodose and its army immediately reflect the seat in front of Constantinople. Six mios later, in November 715, they could enter the city. Théodose was shown then extremely moderate in the treatment which inflicted with its predecessor and his partisans. Following the intervention of the Patriarch Germanos Ier, Anastase II agreed to abdicate becomes monk with Thessalonique.

One knows few things of the short reign of Théodose. It immediately had to deal with Arab invasion which penetrated far in Anatolia and with a projection of the Arab fleet. In 716, he concludes a treaty with Kormesiy from Bulgaria, treated favorable to Bulgarian, with an aim of ensuring a support against the Arab invasion. This policy proved to be paying when, in 719, the Bulgarian ones brought their assistance at the time of the head office of Constantinople.

In 717, the Stratège of the topic of Anatolia Leon Isaurien (the future Leon III) rebelled against Théodose. Leon Isaurien had been combined with Artavasde, Stratège of the topic of Arménie. Leon Isaurien captured the son of Théodose with Nicomédie and Théodose chooses to abdicate the March 25th 717. He and his/her son entered the clergy then.

Théodose could be become bishop of Éphèse towards 729. The modern historians think rather than it is his/her son who was bishop. At all events, the last trace which one has of this bishop is the July 24th 754, at the time of Consile de Hieria.
