Théodoric Ier

Théodoric 1st (? - 451) is a king of the Visigoths (418-451).

True founder of wisigothic monarchy, it establishes his capital with Toulouse. He made three times the war with the Romans, from 425 to 436, but could not succeed in seizing Arles, nor of Narbonne.

He died in the Bataille of the fields Catalauniques, as a combatant Attila at the sides of Aetius.

He had six children:

  • Thorismond, king of the Visigoths (451-453), dead assassinated;
  • Théodoric II, king of the Visigoths (453-466), dead assassinated. In 454, with the assassination of the Roman general Aetius, the kingdom of Toulouse becomes independent;
  • Euric, king of the Visigoths;
  • Frederic, died into 463;
  • X queen of the Vandals, marries Hunéric, king of the Vandales;
  • X queen of Suèves, marries Rechiaire, king of the Suèves.
