Thélis-la-Combe, small village blotti in the fold of a valley of the department of the Loire, exists only since the revolution. This commune of 1500 hectares, whose perimeter is copied on the catchment area of the valley of Riotet, owes its existence with the concessions made by its neighbors during his creation. Before the revolution, these grounds belonged to the parishes of Borough-Argental, Colombier and of Versanne. Thélis-la-Combe is located within the Regional natural park of Pilat. Its name comes from the regrouping of 2 hamlets located each one at an end of the commune. Thélis, with dimensions South-western is one of the oldest hamlets of the area where one finds very old constructions built using large coarsely cut blocks of granite. Combe, with the other end, benefits from a broad sunning and hot currents from the valley from the Rhone always beneficial to promptness and diversity florale.
The youth of this commune and its dispersed habitat did not make it possible to enrich its history. However, the natural wealths and cultural of this territory compensate for this déficit.
The relief modelled at the rate/rhythm of the deterioration of a secular granitic base, the green flora and the hard climate or enchanter following the seasons make all the charm of this country. The summer with the southernmost colors and the continental winter with tendency brings the cohabitation of animal species and vegetable very many. By wind of midday in bottom of valley, it sometimes happens to cross a cicada whereas in winter, with more than 1200 meters of altitude, the white frost covers the fir trees of a white coat of the weeks durant.
The local culture rises from the influences of three bordering provinces: Vivarais whose agricultural activities, patois (one of the dialects of the language of Oc), climate and relief are similar; drill whose industrial dynamism and administrative fastening attracted the populations; the Dauphine one with which the transportation routes are most natural and from which main the tendencies religieuses.
come At the beginning of the twentieth century most of the inhabitants cultivated the ground and exploited the forest. Then, little by little, these activities evolved/moved yielding more and more space to the natural queen. Today, the majority of the inhabitants work in the close cities of which historical industrial activities (silk trade, mechanics, tannery, paper,…) perdurent and evolve/move (textile, plasturgie, agro-alimentary,…). Agriculture remains the first communal activity and is directed towards respectful methods of production of the environnement.
Local tourism resulting from the close agglomerations took its rise after war. These country holidays animate the countryside each end of the week. It is extended now to a population more distant profiting from many point from reception (hotels, rooms of hosts, lodgings, camp-site,…) and of activity for all the tastes.
